INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING EXPERIENCES WITH INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The implementation of new strategies for the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) announces new challenges in teaching methods and promotes the development of targeted works, which incorporate aspects of laboratory and analytical calculation through the use of software (Cruz-Peragón, 2005).
Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) arouses great interest among students of different branches of industrial engineering. The use of these mechanical systems is widespread and accessible, they are present in almost all current land vehicles, cars, motorcycles, trucks, buses...
Tools for Computer Aided Design (CAD) and analysis software are also attractive for students because they allow studying complex systems relatively easily.
ICE knowledge is a great opportunity to develop other specific skills demanded in mechanical engineering. Apart from Thermal Engineering, different areas can participate in the study of the elements, characteristics and measures of performance variables (Lopez et al., 2002).
