Abstract:
The development and improvement in technology is deeply affecting the education sector as well as all other sectors. In 2011, the Industry 4.0 revolution’s effects are reflected on the sectors and this has enforced some changes. As the complicated industrial process becomes more complicated, the industries need human capital with knowledge in different disciplines and abilities. All of the sectors need to move into new formations to be able to reach the required quality and fight with the competitors and obtain their existence. Otherwise they will be harmed or destroyed. The most important component of Industry 4.0, such as acceleration of artificial intelligence, the transition of internet protocol technology to the 6th version, the internet of things and the use of robots in industry, the internet of industrial things and the communication between all these increase the importance of this study. In this context, education environment should be created such that educational environments, especially individuals raised by universities, will be able to access information from their location. In this context, it can be seen that changes in the education system have started. The human strength that the market requires is suitable for interdisciplinary work and individuals with lifelong learning skills. The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the increasing importance of learning management systems (LMSs) in the context of Industry 4.0. With advances in technology, many educational technologies began to take place within the education sector. However; there hasn’t been enough research conducted and there is a gap in literature, especially in LMS. In this way, by creating a virtual educational environment, new generation youth will be able to grow and be able to take part in the industry within the evolution of Industry 4.0. An LMS delivers the virtual effective platform for distance learning by enabling the management of all activities, monitoring student behaviours, delivering course materials, evaluating student performance and similar processes like traditional learning environments. The review of the Industry 4.0 and LMSs literature is of great importance in order to highlight the current situation of the new LMSs and to start further research. To provide a comprehensive review of the academic literature on Industry 4.0, various databases such as EBSCOhost, ProQuest, Science Direct, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar were searched. The relevant studies were included and analysed by topic. In this paper, we focused on the importance and influence of Industry 4.0 and LMSs for the creation of value added for educational industry and society. The findings of the study are based on the literature review and confirm the assumption that the adaptation and usage of LMS will significantly increase with Industry 4.0. The higher education sectors which contributes to human capital will need to meet the requirements of Industry 4.0 and help students to improve themselves for world competition and this study is thought to be a work that will guide the government officials to cope with the effects of Industry 4.0. In this respect, this study will contribute to update course curriculums according to the requirements of Industry 4.0.
