Abstract:
In parallel with the development of internet-based information technologies, which are integrated into open and distance learning, considerable enhancements have been seen in the field of e-learning . Thanks to this development, individuals have become learners who plan direct, and share their learning environments, according to their own learning needs. Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) can be enriched with ever-evolving Web 2.0 tools, which can empower learners to curate their resources and create an archive resources. In other words, PLEs consist of systems that learners individually manage with respect to their own learning, and systems that encourage a self regulated learning perspective. The authors will shed light on how PLEs are used in e-learning through existing examples in the literature. The authors will also share specific information on foreign language learning through PLEs. To this end, examples of useful bookmarks within PLEs will be provided.
