Abstract:
Many policies and practices worldwide have increasingly invoked the possibility of taking advantage of the use of technology-mediated approaches in teacher professional development context, often as a measure to improve quality by addressing teacher deficiencies and as a means of continuous professional development provision. However, from the outset, many projects fail because of lack of guidelines or principles for designing effective mobile enabled teacher professional development solutions. This paper provides an in-depth understanding of the interplay of technological and pedagogical aspects while designing context-specific mobile technology enabled continuous professional development solution for teachers. In particular, it presents key considerations, tools, and principles to inform the design of innovative and meaningful learning experiences employing mobile technologies in teacher professional development context. The conducted study has revealed contextually relevant implications for designing mobile learning-related initiatives in continuous professional development in Sindh, Pakistan.
