Abstract:
This paper presents a preliminary study of communication and collaboration processes during the realization of CeNTER program at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. CeNTER – Community-led Networks for Territorial Innovations - is a knowledge creating collaborative project where researchers representing various academic disciplines and organizational units work together towards a shared vision and common identity. The aim of the undertaken study is to develop insight into challenges related to bringing together diverse knowledge resources in an integrated perspective. The outcome of the study will serve the goal of designing a social media strategy for supporting collaborative effort to achieve a common goal with a group – team learning for professional knowledge practice. The research was motivated by the search for mechanisms for transforming individual learning to collective practice of knowledge building rooted in and supported by a culture of communication and collaboration. In a broader perspective the on-going study addresses the issue of the future of knowledge in post-industrial society. Theoretical investigation focused on the dynamics of cross functional teams. Empirical inquiry targeted project members’ perceptions of communicative and collaborative interactions during work on project assignments. The results of this inquiry will support the design of the above mentioned social media strategy.
