Abstract:
This study compared students’ perceptions of using Google Docs as wikis (Lin & Yang, 2013) where students produced material in a collaborative manner and received feedback from the instructor. Undergraduate students in two different levels of foreign language proficiency, beginner and intermediate, were asked to produce wikis using Google Docs. Quantitative comparative analyses between the perceived benefits of the Google Docs wikis on collaboration and learning were made between sixteen undergraduate students in an Intermediate Spanish class and thirteen undergraduate students in a Beginning Spanish class. The collaborative tasks included answering vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension questions related to texts discussed in class. Findings suggest that most of the students in both levels agreed that the Google Doc wiki helped them to learn the material. A majority in both classes also agreed that they enjoyed the collaborative tasks even though a majority in the intermediate class did not like to make revisions on the material posted. Keywords:
