Abstract:
The purpose of this chapter is to present and discuss the overall results derived from the experience conducted in the CIBERTAAAL project. Different tools were used to get the data for the experiment: a computing program that registered the students’ navigation maps and their reading and navigation modes, tests to assess the students’ learning styles and linguistic competence and students’ self-evaluation tests after performing the task. The overall results obtained from the triangulation of the data collected from the participants (i.e., students from different disciplines taking English, French and German language courses) helped us to address some of the aspects inherent to the development of the new literacies. The analysis of the students’ navigation maps has allowed us to establish possible correlations among variables such as the students’ linguistic competence, their cognitive and learning styles, their navigating styles, their ability to handle ICT and their attitude to the use of ICT. These results will be used to derive conclusions on a tentative definition of digital competence.
