Abstract:
South Korea is one of the Asian Countries investing lots of money, especially in educating their children to have proficiency in English language. We can see all over South Korea, number of public schools and private English teaching institutes involved in training and teaching English to Korean students. School teachers are recruited mainly from USA, Canada, Ireland and South Africa. Korean Government is putting lots of effort in policy sense favoring English language education system and huge investment is made to improve the infrastructure for English Education in Korea. Apart from that, parents are also spending lots of money to educate their children to have proficiency in English language and succeed in life. Different opinion expressed by experts time to time in media and newspapers about lack of proficiency in communicating and understanding English among Korean students. There is no in-depth study done to understand the perception of foreign English teachers about English education system in Korea. The researcher through ethnographic study, tries to understand the perception of foreign English teachers to know why students couldn’t do well in learning English as well as communicating fluently in English after spending many years in schools and private institutions in Korea. English teachers working in public schools and private schools are interviewed for the purpose of the study. On the basis of the outcome of the study, conclusion and implication are made that may help the policy makers to rejuvenate the English language education system in Korea. Keywords:
