Abstract:
The annual electronic journal Advances in Earth Sciences (ACT), ISSN-e: 2172-9328, edited by the Ephyslab group, Environmental Physics Laboratory (CIM-UVigo), has been published annually since 2010 with the idea of being an instrument to disseminate the master thesis in the earth sciences in a paper format similar to a traditional scientific journal. Unlike other publications ACT has, a double aspect: scientific and educational. The publication intends to be firstly a test bench where students learn the techniques of scientific publication and, secondly, a scientific publication for use, where scientific rigor meets us at the same levels as most traditional scientific publications. In this work we analyze the history of the journal, the topics covered, and the academic scientific trajectory that its authors have followed once they finished their master's degrees. A wide survey has been used to know the opinion of the authors about the educational aspect of the journal, the usefulness that these authors have found in this educational effort, and about suggested improvements.
