Abstract:
The purpose of this research paper is to investigate the problems that arose in matters of education of prisoners in Greek prisons during the pandemic. In addition, the utilization of synchronous and asynchronous training techniques in the context of digital educational material and gamification educational material was examined. The experimental study was collaborative and conducted in an adapted and protected online e-learning environment during the Covid-19 pandemic.
At this point it is worth noting that prisoners lost the right to equal access to education because they were not allowed to participate in distance education due to a lack of teachers and other surveillance staff to access a specialized digital interconnection room with the e-Learning system.
The findings of the present study were based on data collected through specialized questionnaires and linked to both aspects of cognitive learning and the active participation of inmates in experimental online training using gamification techniques. The findings suggest that gamification can be a beneficial tool for improving inmates' cognitive performance and creating a meaningful learning experience. In conclusion, the educational intervention helped the prisoners to develop skills of interpersonal communication, social adaptation and self-perception and in general, strengthened their social skills and the way of social interaction.
The innovation of the present work lies in the facilitation of the educational process through the use of gamification techniques. The human right lost in Greece during the pandemic can be regained with innovative Encrypted Distance Learning Gamification Platforms. Moreover, the institutionalization of education in prison highlights the importance it plays within the penitentiary framework, contributing to the acquisition and expansion of social and basic skills, to the development of critical thinking, but also to the process of reintegration of prisoners into society at large. Keywords:
