Abstract:
An important factor influencing the results of our activities (including education) is the ability to focus deeply on the activity performed.

It would be useful for a student to find out what their concentration skills are and how the concentration depends on the daytime or how it is affected e.g. by music in headphones or by ambient noise.

We measure the current ability to concentrate on solving the problem of finding all specified characters in given text. It is a task that requires no knowledge or skills, only the ability to concentrate.

The Focus is an application that runs on a computer or on a phone or tablet, where the user solves the task described above.

The application measures time required to solve the task and checks for errors made by the user.

The times are saved to the database so the users can compare their results with the results of others and follow their own results and find out which circumstances improve or impair their ability to concentrate.

In addition, the teachers can observe the performance of their students.

An experiment where students repeatedly solved the above task confirmed that the ability of individual students to concentrate varies greatly.
