Abstract:
In this paper we present an e-learning module for training and scientific visualization of celestial objects in 3D, which can be used in teaching physics and astronomy topics in an interactive way. We describe the benefits of using immersive technologies like virtual reality and gamification in children education and point out the main features brought by them. Virtual reality simulates multiple user senses and accelerates their immersion in and perception of the virtual world, increases the level of their interaction with the environment, and provides the unique ability to create imaginary settings, not available otherwise. The addition of gamification elements to the user’s experience has many advantages like raising the interaction, learning motivation, memorization and creativity, as well as offering a safe learning environment. In the paper we also review the specific functionalities of our learning module, used for showing the Solar System by using 3D objects, their descriptions and mini games. In the final part, we reveal our concrete plans for improving the project.
