Abstract:
Demographic changes associated with an increasingly older population, together with the rapid spread of digital technologies, are reshaping the landscape and calling for innovative approaches in educational sciences. In the realm of exercise and sport sciences, this scenario highlights the importance of lifelong learning and promoting informed engagement in health-related behaviours through the concept of sport for life. Within this context, Physical Literacy (PL) is a framework integrating motor, cognitive, affective, and behavioural dimensions, and Health Literacy (HL), defined as the ability to access, understand, evaluate, and apply health-related information to make informed decisions that promote wellbeing, provide a valuable foundation for fostering autonomy, awareness, and sustainable participation in sport and exercise across the lifespan. In this regard, recent literature also highlights that older adults face specific educational needs related to the re-learning and adaptation of Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) as their bodies undergo age-related changes. Supporting individuals in reassessing their motor abilities and reshaping their functional movement profiles therefore represents a key educational challenge for promoting long-term engagement and participation in exercise and sport.
In this context, by combining AI-supported learning analytics with literacy-based educational frameworks, the present study explores how emerging digital technologies can contribute to the development of personalised learning environments that support PL and HL in exercise and sport educational settings. Through the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, technology goes beyond measurement, acting as a pedagogical mediator where data are analysed to identify meaningful movement patterns that inform adaptive guidance and tailored learning pathways.
The study ultimately aims to contribute to the design of scalable technology-enhanced educational models that support the development of PL and HL, while addressing key challenges related to lifelong learning, accessibility, digital inclusion in ageing populations that promotes reflection and deepens learners’ understanding of their movement and health behaviours. The proposed approach emphasises the integration of embodied experience and digital observation, encouraging learners to reflect on their own movement practices and develop a deeper understanding of their functional abilities and health-related behaviours.Keywords:
