Abstract:
Traditional Engineering Curricula provide Modules that focus on core engineering subjects e.g. Mechanics of Solids, Finite Element Analysis, Thermodynamics etc. which provide no insight to the student around the type of Engineer they would like to become. Clearly highlighting the relevance of the modules to a specific career path motivates the student to begin with the end in mind. In this proposal a Learning Objective of each Module in Year 1 & 2 of Curriculum is to provide an Understanding of a specific Engineering Job and each module is designed through close collaboration with Industry around a specific Engineering Job. The relevance of each module is further reinforced through Case Studies & Guest Lectures which also provide an insight into the various Industry Sectors Using Reflective Practice over this 2 year period the student makes an informed decision on their Career Path – Industry Sector and Engineering Job – and their Work Based Placement in Years 3 & 4 will be arranged to allow the student follow their chosen Career Path with relevant Industry Experience in their field.
