Abstract:
The Active Learning Spaces (ALS) classroom, with its focus on technology and flipped and blended-learning techniques, significantly increases student engagement, enriches student learning, promotes greater interaction between students and instructors, and is a more effective learning environment for writing courses than traditional lecture-based classrooms. Combined with a workshop approach, where students actively construct their essays in class with access to real-time feedback from instructor and peers, an active learning spaces eWorkshop is a far more effective environment for teaching academic writing and critical thinking skills to general education students. This presentation will focus on the physical space of an ALS classroom and how to successfully run a technology-based eWorkshop for academic writing.
