Abstract:
This paper presents the validation procedure of a Learning Object (LO) to support the learning process of mathematics for students of High School and also for those who begin their studies in higher education in the area of engineering or others related to it. The LO was created with a strong pedagogical guidance of teachers who teach basic math courses favouring a reduction in the rate of college dropout due to poor academic performance of students. The design of the learning object was centred in the user, focused on the identified needs of students and teachers. The evaluation of the quality of the LO was carried out through the LORI model, determining that the object met the established design goals and generating promising results.

The validation process was carried out with a group of students of High School who had some difficulties in the learning of the topics treated in the Learning Object. As a further result of this study, it was generated an instrument that can serve as educational material to support future teachers interested in building similar educational materials.

The main contribution of this paper focuses on the experience in the validation process of the LO, in order to demonstrate the importance that represents the inclusion of such tools as an alternative to reduce college dropout in educational institutions.
