Abstract:
For a long time, different institutions of higher education, whether public or private universities, nationally and internationally, have included student-centered learning systems, such as tutorial teaching programs. Each of these institutions of higher education aims with this, to raise the educational level, as well as to provide personalized attention to each student, avoiding part of the problems of higher education such as failing, lag and dropping out. In addition, with this approach of tutorial teachings, the aim is to foster in students their critical, reflective and proactive capacity, as well as to promote their creativity in the development of academic works and to reinforce in them the responsibility and professional ethics.

The Universidad Veracruzana, since 1999, began a transformation period in the curricular organization. This originated the transition from a rigid structure to a flexible one in their study plans, which aims to develop an integral formation in the students from four educational aims: the intellectual formation, the human formation, the social formation and the professional formation. Likewise, flexibility gives the students a margin of autonomy in terms of making decisions related to their academic credits, in this context, the tutorial work constitutes a fundamental tool to contribute in the achievement of such goals and provide the necessary information and support to students in academic decision-making.

The purpose of the Institutional Tutorial System is to support students in solving problems of an academic nature, to promote their autonomy and integral training, and to contribute to improving their academic performance, based on individual attention or in small groups. Tutorial teaching is defined as the personalized attention made by an academic named professor-tutor, aimed at supporting students who require it, to strengthen their learning processes related to the theoretical and heuristic knowledge of educational experiences, or to have an interest in a wider disciplinary training, through the development of Support Programs for Integral Training (PAFI).
