Abstract:
In subjects of Statistics, the students need to understand and appropriately apply a number of tools and techniques. An effective approach for the latter aim must include different tasks addressed to stimulate the ability to relate the theoretical statistical contents with their practical applications. For example, the students can be asked to develop the statistical analysis of a real case, connected with the scope of their degree, which they have to propose and solve. In this work, the referred task will be described, together with the assessment criteria applied to measure the student´s performance on it, based on the use of an analytic rubric. The students will carry out this task knowing in advance the criteria used for assessment of the results and the different levels of performance. The statistical analysis of real data involves the following stages: description of objectives, data collection (either published or obtained through surveys), application of adequate statistical tools and presentation of the main conclusions. This activity can be developed in groups and the teacher plays an important role in the supervision of their progress, which can include periodic assessment and feedback of it.
