Abstract:
This paper is based on the experience observed in a semirural community school in the State of Mexico. The study was carried out after spotting the need of teaching environmental education in preschool.

International policies in preschool curricula aim to teach communities about the benefits of sustainable development, environmental consciousness, change of habits, and promote harmonic coexistence with nature; at the same time, foster economical wellness.

By implementing curricular and extracurricular environmental teaching-learning strategies we try to renovate preschool curricula. Basic general environmental practices in a planned and organized way increase awareness and appreciation to uses and customs of the communities. After establishing an environmental committee, which included students, teachers, administrative staff, student´s parents, we embarked in this process of innovation.

By implementing these policies at school, teachers are capable to help students and parents to promote healthy habits and experience a better life style. At the same time, it increases environmental awareness and promotes a holistic life style.
