Abstract:
The purpose of the paper is the design, enhancement and subsequent evaluation of open source learning platform for sub-Saharan immigrant women. With this, it is intended not only to make available to pupils in literacy Saharan immigrant population but also to exchange learning objects between schools for literacy of immigrants at risk of social exclusion. Also open and modular architecture allows the extension of the platform for the inclusion of library modules such as Greenstone with which to share information resources deposited in repositories at university libraries and schools that already have repositories of learning resources asRepository of the University Carlos III. It is intended that the dissemination of learning objects and educational resources is carried out taking into account the community iconographic female immigrant learner. It is designed to interface with icons adapted to their cultural environment of origin. Project researchers have teaching experience applicant on these platforms, as well as experience in the implementation of digital libraries in Open Course platforms.Been directed to work on the application level and evaluation of a digital library in a cultural center for the formation of immigrant communities at risk of social exclusion. They have worked with the University Cheikh Anta Diop in two projects funded by AECID on the use of Moodle to train teachers in innovative teaching techniques. The result was the creation of a common learning platform between universities Carlos III and Cheikh Anta Diop that allows the delivery of courses to students of both universities by professors from both universities. From the experience gained in both projects recently completed, we intend to design a new learning platform in a system called Drupal Open Course. With this we adapt the information architecture of the platform to the difficulties of learning the learner community who come to train in House of Senegal. These adaptations include a user interface design for the technique "Drag and Drop" learners are capable of learning objects move across the platform and access them through an iconic language defined from their cultural heritage. We start with a map of icons defined from a sample of images taken objects from Wolof culture. Surveys are conducted on the significance of each image among students of Casa de Senegal. It gives them a meaning of each symbol and asked to confirm or otherwise indicate what it means to them. With the map icons and the meanings assigned to each of them, digitize and include it in the platform handle replacing the buttons with new buttons to the iconography of the map. Then the teachers ask the center to evaluate the new tool for use as a learning platform with their students. Finally, we introduce a test of participant observation among students in order to know the usability of the tool in meeting their educational needs.
