Abstract:
The last decades have been characterized by slow economic growth, social inequalities, declining natural resources which causes that the organizations need to integrate sustainable development in their Management Control System. Universities play a fundamental role in development through their curricula and research projects. In the current Latin-American context there is a considerable increase in Higher Education and the need for them to contribute to economic, social and technological progress that allows sustainable and inclusive development as a means of development. The objective of this work is to analyze the contribution of the Balanced Scorecard implemented in the University of Ciego de Ávila to the sustainable development of the territory. The qualitative methodology of the case study has been used. The interviews with the university management, the documentary review and the observation showed the main results obtained with the Balanced Scorecard. The management of key performance indicators that contribute to sustainability has made it possible to increase the transfer of technologies to the territory and research projects that respond to the demands of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
