Abstract:
Over the years, the metaverse has been gaining more and more importance in people's lives. Within the multiple fields that this type of virtual reality has, this research focuses on its educational facet. The objective is to describe and analyze the main contributions of the metaverse in education, from its beginnings to the present day, with emphasis on the pandemic stage of Covid 19. For this purpose, the methodology used was based on a systematic review of the scientific literature on the subject, which made it possible to establish different categories of the use of the metaverse in education. The results show an interesting evolution from its origins, where the metaverse has been gradually introduced at different educational levels and increasingly applied in the main educational subjects. However, numerous shortcomings and challenges have arisen, which many practitioners agree on. It is concluded that the bibliography used and the results are sufficiently relevant to describe the past and present of the metaverse and, above all, to glimpse the next lines to work on in a future that looks optimistic for this virtual world with wide applications in the educational field.
