Abstract:
Mechatronic Engineering has a long tradition in Japan (its birthplace) and also in most of the developed countries such as the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom. Nevertheless, this traditional and well-known engineering is still new and almost unknown in Spain. Recently, some Mechatronics studies have appeared in the Spanish Secondary Schools, Professional Training, University Degrees and Masters and these studies have been developed earlier in those cities with a stronger industrial sector as a demand from the enterprises.

Despite its integrating nature, Mechatronics does not replace Mechanics or Electronics studies but it is an additional field for our students to develop competences and skills in their way to become excellent professionals. In the same way, Mechatronics may help the University to satisfy the educational demands from the today’s industrial sector that is in a permanent evolution.

In this line, the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) created a new Master in Mechatronics Engineering in 2013. The aim of this new Master is the promotion of competent professionals able to integrate knowledge and competences in several disciplines in the field of the analysis and design of automated manufacture processes. This paper shows the results of the implementation and managing process of this Master at the UPV in its early years.
