Abstract:
Traditionally, policy makers and experts release breaking news and findings on food safety and nutrition to the public through tightly controlled mass media channels. In the last decade, the increased use of search engines, smart phones and social media has revolutionised the way people communicate, not only with each other, but also with organisations. Today, information and communication technologies are used to increase knowledge about sustainable and healthy food, however, plenty of information without a proper scientific basis can be easily found in social media. Therefore, a Master Thesis of Master's Degree in Teacher Training for Secondary Education and Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Language Teaching from Miguel Hernández University (UMH) titled “Information and Communication Technologies to increase knowledge on Sustainable and Healthy Food in Nutrition and Biomedical Laboratory Vocational Education and Training Students” was carried out. To run this work, we required to collect information from students of higher vocational training cycles (over 18 y) in the fields of nutrition and biomedical laboratory (IES L’ Almadrava, Benidorm, Spain), the authorisation procedure is included in the methodology. Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) were considered in the study to provide an insight on society needs. Based on the results obtained, different official and/or scientific information and communication technologies and platforms were proposed as appropriate for expanding knowledge on sustainable and healthy food both in and outside the classroom. One of the most important contributions of this paper is to provide public materials and inspiration (e-poster) for future projects.
