Abstract:
The financial and economic crisis of the last years has put of self-evident that the better formed societies have of a greater number of strategies and resources that can contribute to answer better in times of crisis. In this sense, Europe considers the education and the training like basic pillars of his economic and social model, which puts of self-evident in the Strategy 2020, whose aims were agreed in 2010.
It seems unquestionable the importance that the education in general, and the Professional Training in particular, have in the development of this model of sustainable society from both economically and socially; so that it can answer to the legitimate expectations of the citizenship regarding their employment and their participation as an active element of society.
In this sense, Spain has a Professional Training model that tries to adapt to the real demands of the economic and social context, establishing basic standards of competence leading to national qualifications. Therefore, this model focuses on providing a wide range of training that would develop different learning paths for obtaining professional qualifications established, with its system of evaluation and accreditation.
In this context, this paper is intended to provide an overview of the configuration of the system of Professional Training in Spain, as well as realize an approximation to the evolution experienced in the number of students in recent years, attending to variables such as the ownership of center, the professional family, the degree of training cycles (middle or higher), the gender and the Autonomous community, among others.
