Abstract:
In recent years some researches and publications reflect guidance needs of students at different times: in access to university, during the studies and in the transition to work. In this paper we will focus on the first time, the need for support and guidance for students to access and transition to college.
Some of the needs expressed by students in previous research (Allué Diaz, 1989;Castellano, 1990, Marin et al, 1998) could be summarized as: low awareness of the attitudes and interests, the little information on the studies (curriculum, professional, ...), ignorance of some aspects of the university (entry requirements, facilities, ...), the absence of a professional… To respond to these needs is essential to understand the guidance as currently understood as a process that extends throughout the life cycle and therefore must also occupy an important place in college, while taking into consideration to guide the transition process should be a holistic task that involves the individual in all its aspects. From this perspective requires the involvement, on the one hand, the secondary schools as agents to acquire an important role in guiding the decision-making and in other hand, the University as an institution should be able to response to needs for information and guidance for students, with the consequent need for collaboration between both institutions. In this paper, we include some results of an investigation that addresses these issues.
