Abstract:
The digital portfolio is an instrument that combines technological tools with the aim of putting together all activities that allow the professors to monitor and evaluate the student's learning process. Universities are starting to introduce the use of e-portfolios to ease the interaction between professors and students, and to get an assessment tool, where the students reflect the learning through the whole year. The e-portfolio consists of a selection of activities that the student has to collect and contribute on a determined period and that responds to a specific objective, which is fixed at the beginning of the academic course. These activities allow students to show that they are learning, while enabling the teacher to monitor the progress of this thereof. What makes the difference between this resource and the traditional portfolio is the increase in the number and quality of services provided to learning community.
The e-portfolios have the next advantages:
(1) to show the evolution of the teaching and learning process,
(2) to encourage experimentation, analysis and research of the student,
(3) to reflect the student's personal point of view about their learning and
(4) to reflect the teacher's assessment of the student's performance in the construction of the learning.
The digital platform has been used to set up the digital portfolio. This platform includes the following elements:
(1) A brief presentation of the student, where knowing the students is the goal,
(2) the general and specific objectives of the subject are fixed, so that students take into account the theme of the course,
(3) the documents of the different activities, which will be carried out in the course, as well as the supporting materials,
(4) other types of documents with additional information, which may be necessary for the activities (e-mail of the teacher, links of web pages, etc.) and
(5) the teacher’s comments, which includes both the instructions for developing the activities and the comments to correct their fails, which will guide the student's learning process.
To conclude, digital portfolios have served to assess the competencies that the student is achieving in the teaching-learning process. In this sense, students should be encouraged to incorporate new information and communication technologies into the learning process. This is aimed at motivating to learn, preparing students to study on their own and to interact with others. The idea is to correct the troubles and difficulties to improve the project, as a future line. This improvements will allow us to implement it in the tutorization of the final project of both the degree and master. Keywords:
