Abstract:
The rapid adoption of mobile technologies has become an opportunity for higher education by being incorporated as facilitators of the teaching and learning processes. In the last year, there has been a significant increase in the literature on mobile learning and its applicability, expanding the scope or domains on which research has been carried out. This study investigates the literature regarding mobile learning and its trend, along with user experiences in higher education. For this, the publications are categorized into four groups according to the domain: strategy and theoretical framework, level of acceptance and theme, effectiveness and personalized systems, and case studies, which are divided into nine sub-categories. The significant findings include the existence of different theoretical frameworks that have been proposed as academic support for mobile learning, different experiences aimed at studying the level of adoption and effectiveness, the growing development of more personalized intelligent adaptive systems that are contextualized to the user’s reality and studies and projects in all around the world. This work establishes the current level of research and provides a guide for potential researchers in future exploration.
