Abstract:
Introduction:
The new European strategy for Educational purposes so called “Rethinking educational strategy” [1] based on a reality of youth unemployment rate close to 23%. For that reason, more System flexibility is demanded to actual programs. There are other aspects required such as improving teaching methodologies [2], ensuring students’ skills and competences needed by the labor market [3]. Strengthening links between education and employers and learning multilingualism.
Thinking on the System flexibility Universitat Jaume I (UJI) want to show up how UJI and VIA University College will implement in the academic curricula “environmental issues”, this is a requirement to participate in Solar Decathlon Europe competition in 2014.
The case study will be placed only at UJI, where it will be analysed which degrees, subjects, semester, etc are the most flexible.
The purpose of the competition is to improve social awareness about the sustainability and the use of solar energy. Moreover this knowledge needs to be transferred to the society. In this case, the Educational studies are the ones to transfer knowledge to Primary and Lower secondary schools. People can be stimulated by developing a clear concept, so called “The New Generation of EE” [4], thanks to practices of Environmental Education,.
Curricula:
The academic implementation will analyse the most interesting programs and will make a proposal to improve the Environmental Education (EE).
The studies can be from different areas, not only the Engineering ones; it is also required to adapt degrees from Humanities field and others from Business branch.
Method:
Based on UJI case study we will follow these steps: first identify the most suitable studies, second, analyse the contents of all subjects including Final project and Practical Placement. Finally, settle down the agreement between the SDE team and the teacher about the activities to be developed.
Development:
We need to collect and analyse the following information:
1. Table of Faculties and degrees
Then studies flexibility will be analysed
2. Internal regulations to develop “Practical Placement” and “Final projects”
Identify internal regulation that can be against the competition development.
3. Linking Degrees and SDE tasks
Conclusions about:
The number of credits implemented with EE.
The programs’ flexibility
The best implementation plan
The proposed agreements, activities
