Abstract:
The integration of virtual teaching-learning in online education is practically a managed challenge today. The advantages of the new technologies enhance teaching in these models, it means an established fact. However, these same methodologies are outside as we talk about the modalities of classroom teaching, where lectures charge the same role than in the past, refusing to give way to the new digital era in which we live closer, and it is also intelligible and familiar to students. Therefore, we believe that new teaching innovation projects must be aimed at the integration and coexistence of these new methodologies with traditional education systems. One of the easiest and most productive tool within a virtual environment is the video tutorial. It is an attractive format for the student, powerful visual load, adaptable to developing programs and easy to create too.
Implementation experience in Architecture degree and Building Engineering degree at UCAM Catholic University San Antonio of Murcia (Spain), has involved the preparation of simple three-dimensional Virtual Models of major building systems, using Sketchup, obtaining conceptual models which are illustrative of each of these sets and explaining how they work. This digital material has been used to develop a series of Video Tutorials that, in no more than 5 minutes, show each of these models in motion, permitting observation of each element separately and commissioning work together, combining image with explanatory texts and photographs of real works that establish a direct relationship between the represented object and reality. These Video Tutorials are created by Camtasia software, they have served as teaching support material during lectures in different construction subjects of two degrees. Video Tutorials are a useful support for students during these hours, which are dedicated to personal study.
The results show a highly satisfactory experience, since it has increased the attention of students, motivating them to be part of the development of new digital models, taking advantage of their acquired knowledge in the software. It has increased the capacity of understanding the analyzed building systems, especially in the first years of the degree, thereby improving student achievement. And finally, we can highlight the possibilities that digital media has created in their dissemination, enabling collaboration and exchange of material with other schools and universities both nationally and internationally. Keywords:
