Abstract:
Maintaining the intention and effort to get involved and complete academic activities is important for learning achievement. Volitional control, intended to supporting the learner in the face of difficulties is essential, especially when goal achievement demands concentration and effort for long periods of time. Hence, the importance of having reliable instruments for measuring this construct. This research main objective was the translation and adaptation of the Academic Volitional Strategy Inventory (AVSI; McCann and Turner, 2004) in the Spanish school context. For this purpose, an exploratory factor analysis was used in order to verify the internal consistency of the instrument. Subsequently, a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was utilized to replicate the factor structure of the questionnaire (n = 604 students). The obtained results confirmed that the AVSI is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing volitional strategies and is well suited for further research in the Spanish school context. Keywords:
