Abstract:
AI has an impact on higher education, both in teaching and learning. The teaching and learning processes came up with the learner and teaching models—the learner model used in improvising the independent learning capabilities. The teaching model involved a set of guidelines/assessment tools to assess the knowledge acquired by the learners. These models help the instructors customize the teaching process according to the learners’ learning needs, and interns help the instructors develop the new teaching and assessment strategies. The current study focuses on how AI is used in developing metacognitive skills in engineering students. The authors tried to understand how AI helped teaching models develop metacognitive skills through literature.

In most studies, learning management systems (LMS) served as data-generating systems, like clickstream data, students time spent on LMS, the frequently visited courses, and students’ performance in unlike assessment types studied to understand student motivation and behavior. A few articles were tried to understand the learners' mastery over the content and their positive behavior. A detailed literature review on the role of AI in developing metacognitive skills is discussed in the whole paper.
