Abstract:
This study deals with the power of Visual and Plastic Arts as interdisciplinary and communicative tools in the process of learning. It has been demonstrated that art learning boosts academic achievement by nourishing integral development of the students. For this reason we have studied the perceptions towards this statement of primary teachers and we elaborated an exploratory study based on theoretical foundations about the importance of arts in the educational process.

We conducted a quantitative analysis, using a questionnaire with a sample of 20 primary teachers of private schools from Murcia, Spain. Data were collected through statements made by professionals in the area, analysis of documents on art-education and targeted schools. The results show that there is a significant lack in understanding the value of arts as a way to communicate and learn specific objectives. In contrast, a general awareness was detected about the motivation that art awakens in the students.

It is important to effectively prepare future teachers for improving their artistic knowledge. Such goal will enable these professionals to understand concepts more effectively in an increasingly image-oriented world and to favor the quality of their professional educational.
