Abstract:
The article explores the role of computer assisted language learning (CALL) in the teaching of English which is nowadays commonly used as a blended part of traditional English language teaching. Firstly, the theoretical background of the integrated CALL approach in English teaching settings is explored. In addition, special focus is placed on the added value of multimedia as one of the stimulating information and communication technologies used in CALL. Secondly, the article presents results of a small-scale questionnaire survey which was conducted among part-time students of English at the Faculty of Education in Nitra. Thirdly, the survey results such as reasons for using multimedia, their usefulness or relevancy in English language classes are discussed. Finally, recommendations for further research in this area are offered such as the exploitation of information and communication technologies in English language teaching with respect to learners’ motivation as well as effectiveness of CALL in English language teaching.
