Abstract:
Due to the rising need for professionals and academics with a background and understanding in the Renewable Energy field, Holon Institute of Technology ("HIT") developed a new program at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The Renewable Energy program gives the students technical and practical aspects of energy use (technology and methodology of the study) and energy efficiency. The program also deals with minimizing the environmental impacts of energy use, as well as with energy economy and environmental policy.
Renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar energy, are constantly replenished and will never run out. Renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies are the key for creating a clean energy future for not only the nation, but the world.
A prerequisite for completion studies at HIT Renewable Energy program is to do a final research or project, an innovative project carried out a number of scientific principles to an applicable application.
The purpose of the project is to design of an electrical installation according to the tools that the students received during the degree and in accordance with the Electricity Law in Israel.
In recent years, the trend of green energy has been increasing due to the dilution of fossil fuel resources and the resulting environmental pollution. In order to achieve energy efficiency, the project combines the planning of an electricity system with the addition of alternative energy to the facility.
The design of this project taught the students the basics of designing a standard electric installation, from the medium voltage planning stage to the final consumer.
Safety and energy efficiency were strongly emphasized during the designing process. At this project the students planned electric operation system combined with Renewable energy.
The students made wide review for the main aspects of the design:
• Architectural diagrams for mapping the system loads
• Elecrical safety
• Lightning
• Choosing the right supply system – transformer, backup generator and UPS.
• Cable designing
• Switching and protection devices
• Power factor improvement
• Renewable energy system.
All of our choises are backuped with calculations and explanations.
The students tried to be eco-efficent as much as we could. The PV system produces clean energy in order to reduce the environment pollution.
Renewable energy technologies provide an excellent opportunity for mitigation of Greenhouse gas emission and reducing global warming through substituting conventional energy sources.
There are other research and projects that use renewable energy as a means of reducing energy expenditure and environmental pollution.
All the research and projects are practical experience, which comes after theoretical study. Keywords:
