Abstract:
The primary duty of every doctor is to successfully treat patients. However, in their daily practice they have a number of additional tasks permanently inscribed in their profession. Among others, they are obliged to continuous professional development (e.g. by conducting research and reporting results at scientific conferences), cooperation in a medical team, as well as conducting meetings and group work sessions.

One may ask questions if even the widest medical knowledge, rich experience and perfectly developed soft skills are sufficient to perfectly fulfill all medical duties? Or maybe the skills of a good manager or good leader will be useful for some of these tasks? Which medical duties require managerial competencies, and which a leadership competencies? How to acquire and improve those skills traditionally assigned to managers and leaders but not doctors?

The aim of the article is to present the role of manager and leader in various aspects of the daily activities of doctors. To achieve this, an analysis of existing data and reflection on the professional roles of doctors have been made. The conclusions made it possible to formulate specific recommendations that could primarily support doctors and department heads in carrying out some of their duties.
