Abstract:
The Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria, has been promoting blended learning for several years in its degree programmes to maintain a high quality of teaching in spite of budgetary reductions and rising student numbers, in particular in mass studies. To evaluate the status quo, a survey was conducted among students and lecturers in July 2009 (n=423), revealing the scope of blended learning at the AAUK, its most common forms (e.g. use of the learning platform Moodle, video recordings of lectures etc.) as well as students‘ and lecturers‘ attitudes to them. A similar survey is conducted in February 2010 to identify changes.
The AAUK can now report on the current status of blended learning as an integral part of its university education, about the students’ as well as the lecturers' attitudes and experiences with different forms of blended learning and the implications for the design of blended learning courses for the future. The insights gained also reveal focal points for further initiatives, such as participation in iTunes U.
