Abstract:
Passive training methods are currently facing the challenge of over information, which creates the need in students to be over stimulated in order to keep their attention during traditional master class. To solve this issue, new active methodologies, such as flipped classroom, have emerged to help the student become protagonists of their own learning, hence increasing their interest and motivation through the subject. In this descriptive study, we have used a combined approach with traditional lectures and active training to assess the impact on their own learning. The chosen cohort was the alumni from the subject Biopharmacy and Pharmacokinetics (BF), which takes place during the third year of the Pharmacy Degree Program at the University of Murcia. The students who regularly attended to class (n = 21) were divided into groups of 3 and, once a week throughout the academic year, they were asked to give a 10 min presentation about a self-chosen subject related to the whole undergraduate program. After the completion of the study, students were given a questionnaire through Wooclap platform, in which they assessed the value of this method of learning in their own learning experience. Results show that 95 % of the students positively valued this way of training, and 100 % found it interesting to implement it again for next year’s cohort of BF students. 85,71 % of the alumni appreciated that they could choose the topic, whereas a small percentage would have preferred to have it narrowed down by the professor (9,52 %) or to the content of the course (4,76%). Together, our results clearly support the value of the combination of classic methodologies with new active training to increase the overall interest of the alumni towards the studies and their own learning experience.
