Abstract:

This paper presents a reflection on the production of audiovisual course materials for long distance Administration/ Business courses. It introduces two theories related to the teaching-learning process that guide the production of audiovisual materials and check students' perception of their effectiveness, through a questionnaire available on the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) of the course. It concludes that students prefer to have more of this type of teaching material, which reinforces one of the assumptions of the Theory of Meaningful Learning of Ausubel, related to oral teaching, and to the Dual Code Theory, proposed by Paivio, which enhances the processing of information through double coding - verbal and visual. A questionnaire on the use of video classes on the courses of the distance education degree in Business Administration, composed of five multiple choice Five-Point Likert-Scale and one optional essay question, was included in the VLE from April 3rd to 19th, 2012. From the 1492 students enrolled during this year's first semester, 102 answered it. Among these, 42 answered the open question. Research has shown that students value video classes and acknowledge them as important complementary course materials that contribute to the learning process. Their answers show that PUC Minas Virtual usually makes good choices in relation to the approaches adopted in the production of video materials. There is a clear need for a greater effort to inform students about the availability of the video classes and how to access them.
