Abstract:
The theme of the sustainability of the built environment is the basis of the educational path proposed in this paper and which refers to a Master degree thesis activity in Architecture carried out at the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”. Since this is a particularly topical issue, the professors, in the role of supervisor and co-supervisor respectively, guided the student in identifying a sustainable transformation process that would aim at refining the built environment and the well-being of citizens through an environmental approach to improve climate resilience, water control, and biodiversity.

The thesis work started from the consideration that urban voids generated by disused production activities represent a fundamental resource for sustainable urban development as they are areas often located in strategic points of the city that return to citizens a panorama of degradation and absolute neglect. This premise gave rise to the need for research into nature-based solutions to use the principles of nature as a model to counteract the effects of climate change but also to enhance the suburbs so that they represent the cities of the future.

With these premises, the final thesis educational activity concerned a proposal for the technological-environmental redevelopment of the ex-industrial area Resia in the municipality of Casoria of the metropolitan city of Naples in Campania, hypothesizing a transformation intervention into a park area connected to the city through a network of "green rooms" that allows citizens to stay and live in the place.

The educational path developed was particularly effective as, concerning the outcomes, it enabled the student to interpret existing environmental configurations and their compatible transformations in a sustainable way with graphic and descriptive expressions of immediate communication.
