Abstract:
This paper focuses on the benefits of implementing 3D printing as a subject in the educational process. In the last few years, 3D printers have become available to a broad public, mainly because this technology has become cheap, easy to learn, and reliable. In 2019 we started teaching 3D printing as a subject at the Faculty of Management Science and Informatics. The aim was to create a subject accessible to all students regardless of their field of study. Students empower their creativity and expand their horizons via the multidisciplinary nature of this technology. The 3D printing process is fascinating to the students. They begin with an idea of an object, and through the CAD software and modelling, they give that object a shape and in the end, this object is brought to reality. This means, the students can go from an idea to a tangible final product in a single lesson. This results in heightened popularity among students and increased attendance in this subject. The paper presents the process of choosing the right technical equipment for the laboratory where the teaching process is being held, with the aim of the safety of students and the reliability of 3D printers. The main points of the 3D printing subject syllabus and the rationale for choosing the FFF (fused filament fabrication) technology will also be presented with the recommendation that 3D printing should become a part of the educational process in all schools.
