To the university is essential incorporating technology in education. In an irreversible process of digitization, it is essential to adapt the curriculum to the virtual tools. The incorporation of technology-based experiences is interesting to test the effect of university infrastructure, the skills of teachers and the willingness of students.
Technological reality and broadband penetration varies with each country. We therefore consider value added conducting experience in Latin America, an area in which technological development is less than in Europe and the Western world. Thus, we created a digital newspaper (De la Urbe Digital), necessarily using technological tools (led by the Internet) and with the active and essential participation of students.
The used methodology for this innovative experience is constructivism, formulated in the 80s and 90s of the twentieth century. We consider this the most appropriate power to reshape the teaching of journalism, communication sciences and, in general, the social sciences in college. Thanks to constructivism, we readily adapt the actual conditions of practice as the proper academic environment. In this way, and always in a technological key, we apply the axiom of learning by doing, implicit in the construction of a practical and theoretical knowledge.
From this experience, different conclusions emerge. On one hand, it remains the tradition of print and audiovisual separately, although in the Internet environment multimedia integration is the natural expression of content. The resistance came from both teachers and students. Moreover, technological content should be integrated in a more active and practice way to determine what means require digital journalist training and market trends. In Europe this adaptation is faster than in Latin America.
