Abstract:
This paper focuses on education and its impact on entrepreneurship, by examining entrepreneurial education in general, but also investigating individual education through human capital. The main purpose of this paper is to examine to what extent are basic and post-school entrepreneurial education, related to entrepreneurial intentions and total entrepreneurial activity. The paper also studies how education and workplace training are connected to the birth of new enterprises, and if higher education rates, as well as higher Human capital index, are related to the fear of failure in the terms of entrepreneurship. Data for the analysis of 23 European countries were collected from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor survey, OECD, and Eurostat database. To have a better comparison of European countries and their entrepreneurial conditions, the World Bank data for the indicator Ease of doing business were also included in the research. The results indicate the impact of basic education on birth rates and survival rates of enterprises. The study also showed evidence of the impact of human capital on entrepreneurial intentions, which confirms the importance of education and training as preconditions for entrepreneurial development.
