Abstract:
Water plays a vital role in sustainability, economic growth, and public health. Globally, only about 0.01% of water is drinkable, a quantity that is decreasing each year due to drought, climate change, pollution, and other factors affecting the planet. In Mozambique, a country located in Southeast Africa, the situation of water and its quality are no exception to other countries worldwide and it is a scarce vital resource.

The water system in Mozambique does not cater to everyone, such as rural communities, where the population is subjected to traveling long distances to access water and even share this vital liquid with animals.

Training in Environmental Education principles empowers people regarding the consumption of appropriate water for their use, reducing aliments that can be caused by drinking contaminated water.

The methodology of this work was based on meetings with the population of Calanga about water, focusing on promoting knowledge and raising awareness about the pollution of this vital liquid and its consumption. During the various visits to the wells that supply water to families, it was possible to discuss and identify, through the analysis of the collected liquid, water that is not suitable for consumption and to comment on the problems caused by the consumption of contaminated water.

The sessions conducted served as actions to generate proposals about the treatment of Calanga’s water and how to prevent diseases.
