Abstract:
The concern about plagiarism in high levels of education specifically in thesis works among public institutions in Mexico has been rising, for this reason, it is mandatory to review this works in platforms due to bad practices. For example, National Polytechnic Institute, in particular, has imposed that in every thesis work from high levels, it must contain a similarity report to prove that the work not only contains a low percentage of similarity but also to show the sources that the student has used and with this allow it for verification.

As a result of these requirements, advisors are obligated to manage platforms that provide similarity analysis, for example Turnitin, in order to register their students to be able to upload their work they are working on.

For this case, an online course using MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) were design including important aspects, starting off with ethics, followed by plagiarism and its consequences, this first part is addressed to create concern about the academic integrity. After that, it was necessary to add information related to reference managers and to finish off similarity detection tools.

The purpose of this is that not only tutors should be aware of good and bad practices in research activities and how to prevent them, but also they must know how to use platforms that allow them to get similarity reports in order to avoid plagiarism among students.
