Abstract:
The main objective of our action is the approach of the scientific university to secondary school students. Our group ARLab, works with rescue mobile robots, characterized by a suitable mechanical power for moving on external lands with different difficulties and with appropriate sensors to move with autonomy to locate victims of catastrophic situations
Following this line we are conducting a robotics workshop where secondary school students built a small mobile robot crawler, following all the steps from the theoretical performance of the engine electronics, sensors, microprocessors, through its construction and final operation.
Robots crawlers (sniffer) are able to follow a route marked by a line on the floor. This is a simple way to make an exploration of a particular subject area.
The objective of the rescue robots is to explore the area and de detection of catastrophic casualties. The students build robots that are able to explore the area following a route marked and detect possible victims in form of marks drawn on the ground.
This workshop takes place in a technological subject in secondary schools during one semester and as a result at the end, a competition is organised by the university where the different groups of students competing each of them with its robot made, to find victims.
By the organizers, each year is very gratifying to work with secondary school students, seeing the attention that the students put in the lectures given at the same school and at the university, and how teachers of secondary school tell us, the dedication that they put to build the robots.
