Abstract:
The article aims to present and discuss the “complex thought” of Edgar Morin, as well as the “reflective thinking” of John Dewey and theoretical studies on “learning by doing” of Donald Schön. These principles are analyzed as fundamentals that may effectively contribute to the development of reflective practitioners. As a consequence, better outcomes of students of Architecture and Urban Planning courses in Brazil at the National Performance Examination of Students (ENADE) in Brazil can be expected.

It is possible to affirm that investing in training for development of more reflective practitioners, in Architecture and Urban Planning courses in Brazil, can bring both qualitative and quantitative positive outcomes, for students, teachers and Higher Education Institutions. Architect and Urban Planner Professionals of today need to rethink their role in the society in a complex manner. Special attention should be given to humanistic and sustainable issues, in order to provide improved quality of life for all human beings.

Therefore, this article investigates the importance of investing in training reflective professionals with skills for interdisciplinary design graphic analysis, and how it may contribute for a better result at “ENADE”. The exploratory research aims to analyze the studies that may assist students in acquiring key skills to achieve proficiency in interdisciplinary areas of their practice.

In conclusion, the article states that Brazilian Higher Education Institutions must restructure its way of teaching Architecture and Urbanism, exploring the disciplines of architecture and urban design as interdisciplinary drivers. The new approach has the potential to effectively contribute to the consolidation of training reflective practitioners, apt to execute interdisciplinary graphic design analysis.
