Abstract:
The rapid evolution of digital technologies, applied to the Modeling and Simulation of operational activities of Defense and Security systems, has led simulation platforms to become a strategic tool, not only for operational training activities, but also for planning and managing real operations. In the case of combat air forces, the mission of flight simulation systems until recently focused on comprehensive processes of meaningful learning training for flight crews, both initial and advanced. The achievements have been spectacular, reaching a high operational hybridization between the real and the virtual, incorporating the tactical-operational behaviour of the combat pilots who reproduce circumstances of extreme hostility and lethality, adjusted to the effort that the aircraft would experience in real flight. However, the development effort is evolving towards a strategic, collaborative, systemic and holistic concept, which transcends training, and which may become the core of the operational and logistical structures of the Defence and Security forces in the future. This work analyses the main aspects that are conditioning this transition, as well as the design requirements necessary for the development of the new Live, Virtual, Constructive – Integrated Architecture (LVC-IA) organizational architectures of Modelling and Simulation systems in the field of Defence and Security, applicable dually to other sectors of activity.
