Abstract:
Inadequate use of technology and ignorance of Copyright Law are conditions that contribute to academic plagiarism; which is also present in routine reports made by students from different education levels. It is responsibility of all participants in the teaching process to correct such practices as cyberplagiarism. Students at Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM take basic courses in the first two years of school; the ideal time to teach them proper referencing of authors consulted and the correct use of technology. This activity is routinely performed by the School faculty and should be included in the syllabus of every subject. Therefore, materials at UNAM’s Facultad de Medicina’s cyberplatform were reviewed, and, although material related to Copyright was found, it is essential to make it explicit for students to learn it easily. We propose the inclusion of a chapter devoted to Copyright to counteract technology-mediated plagiarism, also known as cyberplagiarism. Keywords:
Cyberplagiarism, inadequate use of technology, legal aspects of education.
