Abstract:
We present our experience in a teaching innovation project aimed at the joint clinical learning of nursing and medical students at the University of Cádiz. It has been developed in the University Hospital of Puerto Real (Cádiz, Spain), one of the hospital where the students of Degree in Medicine and Degree in Nursing clinical practices are implemented.

Often, the practical-clinical learning presents some challenges, such as the difficulty to reach the proposed objectives, due to the unexpected events; the time restrictions; the demand for other tasks, since clinical tutors must deal with other responsibilities while teaching (clinical, administrative or research); often, professionals do not have adequate training for clinical teaching or sometimes have to teach students of different levels of training; There are also challenges related to patients such as short hospital admissions, very serious patients or those who do not want to cooperate in clinical teaching.

Clinical simulation has demonstrated its usefulness in the learning of Health Sciences Students. Specifically, it has been shown to improve knowledge acquisition, communication and teamwork. With the accumulated experience in this field, the participants in the project set out to design learning scenarios where nursing and medical students can develop and put into practice experiences similar to professional work, taking advantage of the spaces and times of clinical practices that up to now have shared, not collaboratively, but parallel.

The project is based on learning through experience guided by clinical simulations.

We selected 1 clinical case from the Gynecology Unit, for its frequency and relevance in clinical practice, based on postoperative care of a woman operated for breast cancer.

This project represents a step forward the synergetic implication of the different estates of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit of the University Hospital of Puerto Real in the implementation of the clinical practice training program of the Health Sciences Degrees.

The interest for teaching lies in the collaborative work between professionals, teachers and students to promote work and learning in multiprofessional teams in medical and nursing students.
